[dropcap]I[/dropcap] used to have a domain that was www.scottwebb.tv and I never knew how I would use it. I tried it as a blog and then a tumblog. A year passed and not much was going on with the domain at all and I decided not to renew it. Dot TV domains are expensive compared to other domain extensions (I’m still blown away that a “.am” domain extension is greater than $70/year).
Of late, I’ve started to notice some great entrepreneurs using their personal domain for some great thinking and to talk freely on interests. There is definitely some overlap that will occur as I could post every single thought, idea, tutorial, and news right here; however, I have chosen to spread some ideas because I’m in it for the long haul.
Not everything I want to get down or out will fit in on Nuwomb or Embryo. Plus I secretly want to totally DOMINATE the first page of Google for the search term “Scott Webb.”
The biggest inspiration comes from a dude out of South Africa: Adii. Adii is the co-founder of WooThemes and I love his short but rad updates on Adii.me.
One night, I started to think about how I didn’t want to renew scottwebb.tv, but still wanted a clean domain for myself to get out short thoughts, quotes, images, and explorations. The .com domain extension has been taken for a long time and the person that owns it doesn’t even use it. The person has it redirect to their racecar driving website.
With the popularity of about.me website, the .me domain extension brought some clarity. Then I realized Adii is utilizing a .me domain and the simplicity hit me. When I went over to GoDaddy, I didn’t think ScottWebb.Me would be available. Clearly it was as I’ve now got it.
Scott R Webb and Scott Webb
If you’ve known me for a while, you may know that I already have a domain for my name and my photography: ScottRWebb.com. Trust me, it’s been a long year and a half trying to figure everything out for myself. I’m finally getting into a groove overall. I decided to use Scott R Webb as a website strictly for myself as a freelance photographer. The site becomes as close to a portfolio website as I’d like for it to get. I’m keeping it extremely clean! This means it’s for the photography and I leave my experimental thoughts for here. I can write content on Nuwomb if I want to talk about news, issues, events, tips, and tutorials related to my photography and photography in general. This approach isn’t for everyone at all. Maybe even someone like Adii would cringe. I’m okay with that because it’s something that’s working for me right now.
There are a number of other entrepreneurs and thinkers that are inspiring this space for me. I’ll probably talk about them more in the future as well. For right now, I wanted to get out that a big inspiration for this place was found on Adii.me. I highly recommend his blog for startup information and entrepreneurship.
