I Bought Two New Books

[dropcap]One[/dropcap] book to learn more about Happiness and the other to get back my blogging mojo.

I’ve mentioned a number of times that I’m interested in learning about happiness in general, but this book also deals much with issues of depression.  I first heard about Dr. Andrew Weil working with Betty, an older lady, in a call center.  I was getting into very good shape and she was impressed by the food I was bringing and the noticeable changes of fitness. She brought up his book 8 weeks to optimal health – I took it out of the library but never did follow it.

Then months and months ago, I saw Kevin Rose and Jesse Jacobs doing a video podcast with Andrew Weil on Tea.  In that talk, they talked about his upcoming book Spontaneous Happiness.  I went to buy it on Amazon, only to learn it wasn’t going to be available til mid November. AH! Well, it’s mid November and I have a credit to use on Amazon :)

I’m interested in what he has to say about depression in our era, foods that help with mood, and general happiness.  I hope to be able to use the information to serve others too.

Whether you are struggling with depression or simply want to feel happier, Dr. Weil’s revolutionary approach will shift the paradigm of emotional health and help you achieve greater contentment in your life.

The other book? Oh it’s about building a better blog but not the Problogger product.  I wanted a totally different viewpoint on 31 days to building a better blog via “31 Days to Find your Blogging Mojo.”  I know how it is to build an audience, fresh content day after day, and tought to know if I’m even still on track! Especially with my strong desire to do more blogging on multiple blogs, I want to get some more information at the low price of $4.99 on Amazon.  $4.99 is awesome, so pick up a copy.

I’m reading a lot these days and I need to increase it, eh :)

The Power of Free Writing

[dropcap]Sometimes[/dropcap] I use my blogs as a place for free-writing. I don’t plan out what I’ll write and I just write off the top of my head. Perfect example of this was today in the post called “Over Extending.” Essentially, I was stuck and frustrated with being that stuck. Freeform writing is something that really helps and I’ve gotten off the ritual of writing on 750words.com. I could go back and delete the post from earlier today as it was pretty whiny, but it served a purpose. After writing, I actually got some stuff done that has helped me feel a bit more at ease.

A great book (that I haven’t even finished) is about free writing and how it can help to unlock creativity and inner genius. It’s called Accidental Genius: Using Writing to Generate Your Best Ideas, Insight, and Content by Mark Levy.

Really smart and I need to finish it.

I’ll do my best not to leave posts like today around the blog, but I’m glad to report how free writing can be powerful.

Soon, I’ll update my reading list too!

Continuous Reading

I’ve found so much joy in reading.  Lately, I’m constantly reading.  I believe that continuous learning is vastly important if I want to make my life interesting as I grow older.  Within continuous learning must come reading.

What do you Read?

The most important form of my reading comes from books.  The Kindle or, in my case, the iPad with Kindle app is home of a number of books.  I’m reading a bunch right now but I’m focused on one in particular before moving onto the next. Reading in the mornings and then again before bed has become a ritual that I don’t want to break.  I know this is powerful and that I am doing something that a great percentage of the population doesn’t bother to do.

I have a bunch of physical books too.  I love the way they look around me; however, I do believe that I may look to find a way to sell them soon and hopefully make some money.  More important, the books will hopefully get some new attention and spread their ideas with more people.  If you’d like to know what books I may have to sell, shoot an e-mail to scottwebb[at]nuwomb.com.

Read subjects that you’re interested in.  Read about photography, technology, money, and art.  Continuous reading is continuous learning.  It didn’t stop after high school or college.
